Project Description
Entering this condo from the ground level you would look up a small staircase to view the kitchen. The original kitchen was built in a U with 2 peninsulas, similar to a lunch counter or a bar. This design positioned the cook behind the counter, requiring a long walk around to either enter or exit. We fixed the problem by removing the peninsula and the counter, replacing them with a sleek and modern island. The sink was then placed on the island for close proximity to the stove. Then, we consolidated the cooking by installing a 30″ range with a simple hood. For an interesting backsplash, we employed white textured subway tile, offering a subtle look with a contemporary twist. Lighted transom cabinets along the top of the focal wall provide both detail and character. Throughout the space, we specified Omega cabinets in an earthy brown finish called Walnut Pumice. At the far end, a built-in refrigerator sits between a pair of pantries, creating a symmetrical, second focal point. We also refashioned the staircase, which was a major auxiliary element due to its proximity to the kitchen. The finished design unified the entire mid level of the house which contains all the home’s living areas.
